LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- On their second day in New Hampshire, 64 Mamaroneck High School students made calls, crafted signs and did other "get out the vote" activities for one of four Republican campaigns in Manchester, N.H.
They arrived Sunday on an extended field trip with Joe Liberti, who teaches AP American Government and Politics at MHS. Three of those students also take video with Emily Dombroff and are documenting the students' authentic learning experience.
They created a video demonstrating some of the work they have done so for.
Students volunteered for either the Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney campaigns. Liberti wasn't sure if students would be able to meet with the candidates they're working for, but those working on the Gingrich campaign were able to meet with the Republican hopeful.
On Sunday, all 64 students met with Gingrich's director of field operations. Monday night, they will attend a New Hampshire Institute of Politics panel discussion at 6 p.m., hosted by Politico, featuring top news media political correspondents.
The field trip, which is part of the school's attempt to increase authentic learning experiences outside of the classroom, will be the subject of a segment on CBS News Monday at 6 p.m.
