Fairfield Man Pleads Guilty In $500,000 Tax-Evasion Case
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A Fairfield man has pleaded guilty to failing to pay taxes on hundreds of thousands of dollars he bilked from an elderly benefactor, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Orval Furlong, 72, entered a plea of guilty to one count of tax evasion in federal court in New Haven on Tuesday, Feb. 23, Daly said.
According to Daly, Furlong was a lifelong friend of a wealthy, unnamed, benefactor who paid some of his debts and financed his children’s school tuition.

American University Honors Slain Graduate From Trumbull
TRUMBULL, Conn. -- Kevin Sutherland, a Trumbull native who was murdered during an apparent robbery attempt last year in Washington, D.C., was honored recently by his alma mater, American University, according to the Trumbull Times
The college’s Democrats Club, of which the 24-year-old was a member, in December named their annual banquet for Sutherland, a former intern for U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, the Trumbull Times story said.

Grace Farms Invites Community For 1st 'Winter Outing'
NEW CANAAN, CONN. -- Grace Farms, an 80-acre New Canaan preserve that advertises itself as a “place to experience nature in all seasons,” will host its very first community “Winter Outing” next month.
